چکیده

Much information has been published on the relationship of lipides to tumorigenesis (17), but most of the work has been concerned primarily with the more quantitative aspects of lipides in tumors and in the tissues of tumor-bearing ani mals. Investigations on the course of lipide bio genesis have been few. In a continuation of earlier work in this laboratory with normal animals (23), it seemed advisable to study the biosynthesis of cholesterol and fatty acids in tumor-bearing ani mals. In this report, as before, the incorporation of C14 from acetate-1-C14 into these substances is used to demonstrate their synthesis.

Effect of essential fatty acid deficiency on the lipid composition of the Yoshida ascites hepatoma (AH 130) and of the liver and blood plasma from host and normal rats1

In order to study the response of a poorly differentiated tumor to nutritional manipulation, the Yoshida ascites hepatoma (AH 130) was grown in rats fed an essential fatty acid (EFA)-deficient diet and in rats fed a control diet. Hepatomas, livers, and blood plasma from host rats and normal rats were studied as to the effects of EFA deficiency on the lipid composition. Normal rats fed an EFA-de...

Role of whole-body lipids and nitrogen as limiting factors for survival in tumor-bearing mice with anorexia and cachexia.

This study was designed to ascertain whether the overall availability of whole-body lipids and nitrogen is a limiting factor for survival in tumor-bearing mice suffering from anorexia and cachexia. Three-month-old nongrowing mice (C57BL/6J) were given s.c. transplants of a methylcholanthrene-induced sarcoma. Freely fed, starved, and pair-fed animals were used. Body and lipid composition, tumor ...

The Effect of a Phthalanilide Derivative on Lipide Metabolism in L1210 Leukemia Cells.

An active ant-ileukemic phthalanilide, 2-chloro-4'-4"-di-2-imidazolin-2-ylterephthalanilide (NSC-60339) markedly inhibited the in vitro incorporation of acetate into lipides of L1210 cells after in vivo administration. The depression of lipide biosyn thesis is considered to be the primary mechanism of anti-leukemic action of this class of compounds because (a) it is not found when an inactive c...

Suppression of tumor-associated hyperfibrinogenemia and free fatty acidemia with p-phenoxybenzalbutyrate (clofibrate).

Previous work in our laboratory has indicated that free fatty acids stimulate synthesis of fibrinogen by the liver. The effect of the hypolipidemic agent clofibrate on hyperfibrinogenemia associated with tumors was evaluated by monitoring clofibrate-induced changes in plasma fibrinogen concentration and biosynthesis of the protein in Buffalo rats implanted with a localized, nonmetastasizing neo...

Reduced body fat and increased hepatic lipid synthesis in mice bearing interleukin-6-secreting tumor.

Chronic secretion of interleukin-6 (IL-6) in mice causes metabolic alteration in the liver, leading to increased synthesis of hepatic cholesterol and fatty acids (FA). Mice were injected with allogeneic tumor cells transduced with the murine IL-6 gene. During the 3 wk after tumor inoculation, elevated serum IL-6 levels were associated with increased spleen and liver weight. Histological examina...
